APM Terminals Wins Safety Awards

APM Terminals has announced it recently won the Gerald H. Halpin Safety Excellence Award for 2010-2011 by the Signal Mutual Indemnity Association.
The Halpin Award is given to maritime companies that exemplify the promotion of safety and health throughout their organisation.
According to a press release, APM Terminals demonstrated the best safety improvement record in terms of reduced incidents for the past three consecutive years.
APM Terminals' Los Angeles and Tacoma location also won the Industry Leader Safety Award.
APM said its lost-time injury frequency (LTIF) rate in their North American terminals have declined 6.88 million man-hours worked in 2010 to 6.26 million man-hours worked in 2011.
It added that in 2011, its US terminals experienced zero fatalities.
The Hapin Award is given in recognition of the Signal Member company which serves the American maritime industry's risk management and insurance needs.
The Association’ Membership is comprised of a broad range of maritime businesses including terminal operators, stevedoring companies, ship building and repair, construction services and related offshore industries, representing over 200 companies with combined reported Longshore payrolls in excess of $2 billion.
