Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Port Authority certified the Itabo International Port under the Protection of Ships and Harbor Facilities (PSHF), the most important accreditation on security issued to the ports which comply with all regulations of the International Maritime Organization(IMO).
The IMO and the Dominican Government granted the Dominican Port Authority the responsibility of enforcing adherence to the PBIP code and with issuing the certification in Dominican Republic’s ports, for which it also created the Specialized Port Security Corp (CESEP).
CESEP director Juan Ramon Soto handed the certificate to Itabo president Marco De la Rosa, who was accompanied by Itabo plant manager Angel Guastaferro and other executives and officials.
De la Rosa said the PIBP certification confirms Itabo International Port’s reliable and safe operations, which also represents confidence for the operators of freighters and shipping agencies.
He said the certification shows that “we continue adhering to our corporative values, which also honor our just acquired accreditation such as the excellence in all our activities and in safety, as the company’s first value.”
De la Rosa added that proof of that is Itabo’s approval with higher levels than the standards established in the follow-up audits the Code demands.
